Community Social Activities in the Village Hall - ideas

A new dartboard has been erected so the Village Hall now has 2 for future events or even competitons. There's also a "Bullseye" dartboard and game which has already provided for a fun evening - John Peterson having won "his n hers jet skis" at the inaugral BinDay Bullseye evening!

The following resources are being added or considered to improve the facilities and encourage more villagers to use the Hall:-

  • Coffee Machine;
  • Fridge;
  • Multi-purpose gaming table which offers Table Tennis / Pool / Shuffleboard / etc;
  • Replacement 'kitchen' units to provide storage and work top space.

Along with sprucing it up, there are ambitions to develop the village hall into a more useable building with toilet and washing up facilities so we can begin to hold social activities there.

Together we can turn the Village Hall into a thriving social hub of the village.

Andy Hall, Hockerton Parish Chairman

Hockerton/com would like to gauge interest among villagers for monthly activities such as:-

Horse Racing evenings - big screen TV with 'live' horse races including a TOTE to place

bets (bet max is 25p)

Quiz nights - general knowledge or other

Bingo evenings

Summer outdoor "Roadshow" style events - it's a knockout, 'horse shoes', 'ladder jacks' etc.

Casino nights - Roulette table, Texas Holdem table and BlackJack

"Game" night with a twist - the twist being the game is Pheasant and/or Partridge and the evening consists of learning to prepare it for a meal (getting the breasts off). This could be coupled with a BBQ if we wanted to cook the birds too

Darts evenings - a mix of the normal 501 format and the easier, more fun "killer"

Flower Arranging evenings - Good for guys (making valentines gifts!) and girls.

Pub style Games - Bar Skittles, Shuffleboard etc

Handyman evenings - get local tradesmen in to teach villagers things such as "build a bird table", "build your own wine rack", etc

Wii nights - big screen TV and a Wii machine for tournaments in games such as Bowling, Tennis etc.

Please add your comments or ideas in the comments section so we can develop uses for the village hall that incorporate something for eveyone.

    And the first event is “Bin Day Bullseye” – Hockerton’s answer to the 80’s TV show…. You can’t beat a bit of bully!
